In this tour we are going to see Arnhem outside the center ring. From the pick-up location in the center of Arnhem we drive into the surrounding neighborhoods. We visit the Boulevard Quarter with buildings dating back to 1880. Of course we see the Spijkerbuurt, world famous in the Netherlands because it housed Arnhem’s Red Light District until 2006. We see Klarendal, the first Arnhem neighborhood to be built outside the Arnhem fortifications, after King Louis Napoleon gave permission for it in 1808. It is also the neighborhood where guide Bart lived in rooms during his studies. Nowadays the district has been renamed the Arnhem Fashion Quarter, where we find the small boutiques where many (former) students of the Arnhem Fashion Academy have their studios.

We look at Park Sonsbeek from all sides and so we end up in the beautiful Mayor’s Quarter. We briefly leave the Arnhem municipal boundary, see the Mariëndaal estate and a small part of Oosterbeek. We approach the center of Arnhem from the west and look for the Rhine again with a small detour. Depending on your wishes we can end on the north or south bank of the Rhine. When the weather is nice a drink and a snack on the terrace of ‘Strand Zuid*’ is recommended.

Because this is a private tour, you decide when to stop for a photo or a short walk to take a closer look at the surroundings. Or of course for a change of places between the sidecar or on the back of the bike!

POSBANKTOUR

About 150,000 years ago, glaciers from Scandinavia reached all the way to the northern border of Arnhem. With their enormous weight and force, the glacier tongues pushed the existing coarse river sand tens of meters upwards. After the glaciers melted, the landscape was further shaped by the rivers and the elements.

With this tour we visit the beautiful National Park the Veluwezoom. To get there we follow stream valleys, take a look at Rozendaal Castle along the way and ride into the woods. Via the only real hairpin bends in the Netherlands we drive up the lateral moraine to the Herikhuizerveld.

There, at the transition from the lateral moraine to the IJssel valley, a beautiful area has been created with magnificent views. Make sure you have your camera with you, especially when the heathlands are in bloom and the area turns completely purple. After enjoying the views, we descend towards the IJssel River and stop at Middachten Castle and Biljoen Castle.

Because this is a private tour, you decide when to stop for a photo or a short walk to take a closer look at the surroundings.

MARKET GARDEN

Our most booked tour visits the special locations that played a role in Operation Market Garden in 1944. We drive past the landing fields in Wolfheze where gliders from England hit German-occupied Dutch soil. We look at the old church in Oosterbeek where the soldiers returning from Arnhem holed up for days in September 1944. We also see where General Urquhart was forced to take shelter in the attic of Zwarteweg 14 when he went to check on the front.

But we also visit places that have been set up after the Second World War as a memorial to the victims, such as the military British cemetery in Oosterbeek. Here at the Airborne War Cemetery are the graves of 1,754 British, Dutch and Polish soldiers who died during the Battle of Arnhem.

We start and end of course at the bridge where it was all about.

GAME DRIVE

This special tour leaves at a different time each day! We leave 45 minutes before sunset from the pick-up point. So we are just before sunset in the National Park Veluwezoom, the ideal time to spot wild animals. The day-trippers and tourists have gone home and the wild boars come out of the forest to look for their food on the fields. If we are lucky we can spot a few. Often a stray deer walks by and if we are really lucky we see a red deer walk by. We can’t stay too long, dusk is falling and after sunset it is no longer allowed to drive in the nature reserve. Unlike the name of this tour suggests, we only shoot photos. And we bring the binoculars!

Please note! Of course, we have no influence on the presence of wildlife and unfortunately we cannot promise that you will actually see wildlife. Currently we have spotted game 9 times in the last 10 rides.
